Investigating Soil Carbon

Yvonne-Chang-Inline“Soil carbon is linked to a lot of important functions, like increased plant productivity and improved soil structure. Through my research, I’m examining the effect of melanised root-associated fungi on soil organic carbon under irrigated cotton. In particular, I’m investigating whether some of these fungi may help store carbon for long periods of time. If the result is a significant increase in carbon, then this could help address the long-standing issue of declining carbon in soil, and as a result, enable increased production and sustainability for cotton growers.”
