Cotton Farm and Gin Tour for Australia’s Fashion Industry
June 27, 2016

NSW cotton growers, researchers and ginners hosted leading Australian fashion and textile industry figures at an exclusive cotton industry tour on 27 April, 2016.

The industry tour incorporated a visit to Auscott Narrabri farm during harvest, Auscott gin to see cotton processing and the Australian Cotton Research Institute (ACRI) to meet some of the world’s leading cotton scientists.

Cotton Australia CEO, Adam Kay, says the tour creates a strong connection between both ends of the cotton supply chain – growers and end-users – and supports Cotton Australia’s efforts to position Australian cotton as a responsible raw material supplier.

“The farm tour provided influential figures from Australian fashion with a better understanding of where their raw cotton comes from, and the processes used to produce it with care. This is critical in a global market increasingly focused on responsible cotton production and supply chain management,” Mr Kay says.

“It was a great opportunity to showcase the Australian cotton industry as a world-leader when it comes to sustainable and responsible production – both environmentally and socially.”

“Australian fashion brands and retailers, like their international counterparts, are increasingly paying attention to product provenance and their supply chains,” Mr Kay says.
