Applying best practice at home and at work

Amanda is a cotton grower with a strong focus on integrated pest management - IPM.

"How we manage pests early can impact what happens in the field all season long," she says.

"My other hat is as a Cotton Region Extension Officer in the Macquarie Valley. In this role, I work towards ground-truthing the latest research - often on my own farm - to make sure that it is relevant and benefits growers in our Industry."

Amanda works closely with researchers and coordinates the collection of insects for resistance monitoring by entomologists. She uses her local network to discover issues on the ground and link them back to the right industry bodies and researchers.

"Having a strong correlation between growing cotton, extension messages and research helps our industry to grow some of the world's best cotton in a sustainable and profitable way," Amanda says.
